The King's Secret: A Screen Free Draw-Along for Kids
Once upon a time in Ireland, there lived a king with a secret so enormous, so embarrassing, and so ridiculous that he decided not to tell a single soul. Not the queen, not his children, not even his dog!
In the newest episode of The Fairy Tale Art Cart: Draw Along Stories For Kids, your 4-to-9-year-old story artist gets to illustrate their way through this wild Irish folktale called The King's Secret, pausing three times along the way to draw a royal hairstyle studio, a whispering willow tree, and a flute that just can’t help but let out the very cute and fluffy the secret that the king is keeping.
If you are a busy parent searching for screen-free activities for kids that actually hold their attention, this episode is pure gold. All your child needs is 3 pieces of paper, their favorite markers or crayons, and about 30 minutes of listening-and-drawing time.
No prep.
No screens.
No "Mom, I'm bored" ten seconds in.
Just a warm, whimsical Irish folktale, three imagination-stretching drawing breaks, and the kind of calm, independent creative play that lets you cook dinner, take a call, or (gasp) drink a hot coffee while it's still hot.
Beyond the silliness and the art, your story artist walks away with something bigger. They will understand how heavy secrets can feel, how much lighter life gets when the truth comes out, and how the thing we are most embarrassed about often becomes the thing people love most about us.
Press play on The King's Secret wherever you get your podcasts. And! If your kid asks for another one the second the credits roll, there are bonus draw along episodes waiting for members of the show (link in the episode description).
Keep The Story Going: Easy Art + Play Idea
"Whisper It To The Willow": A Silly Truth Telling Art Idea
Here is a playful, zero prep activity inspired by our character Liam's trip to the willow tree:
On a fresh piece of paper, your kid draws a big, beautiful tree. It can be any kind of tree, any kind of magical.
Ask: "If you could whisper a silly made up situation to a tree, what would it be?" (Think: the cat actually runs the house. I do not really like green beans. My stuffed animals have a secret meeting when I'm asleep.)
They write or draw their silly “truth” sentence at the base of the tree, then fold the paper in half so the it’s "buried" inside.
For extra storytelling magic, head outside, find a real tree, and whisper a silly made up situation to it together.
Two minutes to set up. Twenty minutes of giggles. Zero screens.
