Aran Aung & The Elephants: A Screen-Free Draw Along Story For Kids.

500 Elephants, One Sleeping Giant, and the Best Screen-Free Art Activity Your 4–9 Year Old Will Ask to Replay

If you're a busy parent searching for screen-free activities for kids that actually hold their attention, this episode from The Fairy Tale Art Cart: Draw Along Stories For Kids is pure gold. All your child needs is 3 pieces of paper, their favorite markers or crayons, and about 30 minutes of listening-and-drawing time. No prep. No screens. No “Mom, I'm bored” ten seconds in. Just a warm, whimsical folktale, three imagination-stretching drawing breaks, and the kind of calm, independent creative play that lets you cook dinner, take a call, or (gasp) drink a hot coffee while it’s still hot.

This episode was recorded LIVE at Buunni Coffee Inwood in NYC and features blues guitarist Andy Seagrave.

Beyond the giggles and the art, your story artist walks away with something bigger. They see how easy it is to get lost when everyone’s grumbling, and how help has a funny way of arriving from the most unexpected places. Sometimes it’s a kind stranger with a cooking straw. Sometimes it’s a giant sneeze. Either way, a little kindness can turn a wild detour into the best part of the journey.

Keep The Story Going: Easy Art + Play Idea

"Story-Sneeze Surprise" — A Paper-Cannon Imagination Game

Here's a playful, almost-zero-prep activity inspired by Aran Aung's mountain-shaking sneeze and Zin Chi's cooking-straw cannon:

  • On a fresh piece of paper, your kid draws and cuts out tiny paper "elephants" (or any surprise creatures — frogs, fish, dragons, dinosaurs… up to them).

  • Roll a second piece of paper into a hollow tube — that's the magical cooking straw.

  • Aim towards the paper and away from anything breakable, take the biggest possible breath, and PFFFFFFTH! Story-sneeze the magical story creatures out into the room!

  • Wherever they land becomes the next setting of the story. Did they fly to the lake of purple water? Land in the kitchen? Bounce off the dog?

Two minutes to set up. Twenty minutes of giggles. Zero screens.
