The Easiest Way To Bond With Your Kid? Go To A Storytelling Event!

You're busy. As a solopreneur mom of three, I get it. Between school pickups, dinner, and the inbox that never empties, quality time with your kids can sometimes feel hard to savor, like it’s something to squeeze in. But what if it didn't have to?

The beauty of live storytelling events for parents is that they do the heavy lifting for you. You simply show up together with your kids and the magic takes over from there.

Whether it's a professional storyteller (😉) at your local library or a community performance in the park, these events have a way of pulling both you and your child out of the everyday rush and into a shared world of imagination.

More Than a Good Story

Research consistently shows that shared reading and storytelling experiences are among the most powerful tools for building early literacy — but beyond the science, there's something even simpler happening: you and your child are experiencing wonder at the same time.

The "Did you just see that?!" moment is connection and bonding happening in a joyful way. And it happens naturally, because as humans we naturally love stories!

And there’s lots of other benefits to headin gout to a storytelling event with your kids, too!

  • Vocabulary grows with ease and fun

Storytellers use rich, expressive language, and kids absorb it organically when they're engaged and entertained.

  • Listening skills get a real workout

Following a live narrative builds focus and comprehension in ways that screens simply can't replicate.

  • It sparks real conversations

The car ride home becomes its own adventure. Kids want to talk, retell, and reimagine what they just heard (and your inner child can join in that fun!).

  • You're the hero just by being there

Presence is powerful. Showing up alongside your child and laughing, gasping, leaning in… it says oodles to your kids about how much you enjoy being with them. Play and imagination are the language of children!

You don’t have to be a perfect parent. You can come tired and undercaffenated. You just have to be in the room with your kid when the story begins. The story does the rest.

For the Busy, Beautiful Chaos of Parenthood

Storytelling event are exciting because they work for all kinds of families. Got a wiggly PreK-er who can't sit still? Live storytellers (😉it’s me!) are pros at holding a room full of tiny humans. Have an older kid in 4th grade who thinks they're "too cool"? Let a master storyteller prove otherwise in about three minutes flat. Got a PreKer AND a 4th grader? No problem. Storytellers are artist who can weave that thread!

These events are often low-cost or free, happen on weekends, and are designed to be drop-in friendly. No prep. No cleanup. No elaborate plan.

Just you, your kid, and a story worth telling.
